Many of the country's twenty and thirtysomethings may look back at their youth with misty eyes and still remember the toys that they've played with when they were young. Yes, those toys do bring the warm fuzzy feeling that some people associate with childhood. But why do toys bring kids that much happiness? Toys may not only be these wooden or tin or plastic-made things to play with, they can be referred to by children as their confidantes. And even if you have outgrown your old toys, you still remember the happy feeling that they have brought you. Some people have managed to save the toys they played with when they were young and manage to pass them to their kids or younger siblings. But even if you consider them as classic or retro, you'd be surprised how some of these vintage toys are still popular and can still be found in toy stores of the new millennium!
ChooChoo Train
Ever had a Christmas Eve celebration in your home with a running train on its tracks which surrounds your pine Christmas tree? Yes that ubiquitous plastic toy is still preferred today. Today, these trains may be controlled using the remote control . But back then , trains were made of wood and have to run manually by pulling a string off the front bumper of the train. The first toy train was created in the 1930's. According to accounts Marshal Larabee who was crippled by sickness at the time, took up woodworking. One day he was asked by his wife, Elizabeth to create little trains that kids can hold by hand. And since then little train miniatures have become one of the most favorite vintage toys that eased up to the new times, all over the world.
Rag Doll
The rag doll can be considered as the little girl's playmate way before other contemporary dolls were created. Rag dolls have been in existence as early as the 300 century when tombs of Roman kids have been found with rag dolls buried with them. A rag doll is a simple doll made of cloth which were stuffed by various cloth swatches trimmings or even cotton. It has buttons for its eyes, and patchwork for its clothes. A toy as old as a rag doll will never truly be erased from history as modern day rag dolls still exist in the market, all were manufactured to look as if they are home-made by your mother.
Teddy Bear
The teddy bear is also a stuffed toy similar as a rag doll, the difference is that it is technically a stuffed bear. the teddy bear was created in the 1900's when a toy company was inspired with the news about then President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt's botched bear hunt. The former President did not kill an American black bear, and this was lampooned in various magazines. It was then called as "Teddy's Bear" and it clicked! Kids and young ladies were seen carrying teddy bears all over. Since then, Teddy bear has been consistently listed as one of the most classic vintage toys of all time. Today, the familiar color, look and cuteness of the Teddy bear is still being passed on from generation to generation.
