Some collectors began this hobby since they were little kids. It could be that on a little boy's 7th birthday, he received a superhero action figure from his uncle and he grows to love that toy. But, he feels that something is missing. The little boy then asks his parents if they could buy the villain to fight the superhero. Upon granting the little boy's wish, they boy still couldn't get enough. He wanted the entire league of superheroes to fight the baddies.

However, some started when they were already adults. It could be because one man heard that antique toys make quite a good investment, and thus he got hooked to collecting. Another instance could be a father who buys his son toys that grew in number over time.
