Summer Saturdays NSPCC Family Race Day Out

At least one Newmarket Summer Saturdays should already be marked on your calendar as a definite day out over the school summer holidays. If not then put aside Saturday 24th July. It is a very special day as Newmarket's July Racecourse is holding its annual NSPCC Family Race Day. This is a great way to spend a summer's afternoon relaxing with family or friends whilst contributing to the valuable work of the NSPCC.

This very popular summer event will be raising funds for the charity's Child Voice Appeal. The aim of this project is to develop and expand the ChildLine and NSPCC helpline services.

Last year's event was attended by over 9,500 people and raised £20,000 for the children's charity and it is hoped that in this, it's 11th year, the Family Race Day will be bigger and better than ever.

There is a fabulous 7 race card on the day. The Ballygallon Stud Ireland EBF Maiden Stakes is the first race of the afternoon and gets underway at 1.45pm. In between races there is plenty to keep visitors of all ages entertained. As with all the Summer Saturdays there will be a Punch & Judy Show and two giant inflatables set up in the Garden Enclosure. Both are free to enjoy and are accessible from all of the enclosures. The permanent children's playground will also be open and again this is completely free for all racegoers. Along with other attractions on the day there will also be a fancy dress competition for the younger guests to enter.

There is great selection of restaurants and bars to choose from at the July Course or you can simply bring along a picnic and enjoy the fun-filled atmosphere and beautiful surroundings of the Garden Enclosure.

There really is no finer place to enjoy the thrills and sheer beauty of a day at the races. The July Racecourse is a spectacular summer venue for both racing and relaxing. The recent £10 million enlargement and development has transformed into a state of the art facility that has everything the modern racing fan could need. That said the course has retained all of the splendour and majesty that has made it one of the finest venues in the world for summer horseracing.

Tickets for the NSPCC family Race Day start from just £5 whilst children under the age of 18 get in for free.

All of the money raised on Race Day will go towards the NSPCC Child's Voice Appeal. Launched in 2008, the aim of the appeal is to raise £50 million in 3 years. ChildLine is a free and confidential, 24-hour helpline which offers help and support to children in distress or danger. The NSPCC Helpline is there to provide a voice for those children who cannot speak for themselves and are in need of an adult to speak up for them.
Demand was so high that before the launch of the appeal only a third of the calls to ChildLine and three quarters of the calls to the NSPCC helpline were being answered.
With the money raised so far more volunteer counsellors are there to answer calls to ChildLine and additional staff are able to take calls to the NSCPP Helpline. They have also launched the ChildLine online counselling service so now there are even more ways for children to get the help and support they need.
