How would you like to be able to get literally closer to nature, or at least, your garden? For most people, plants can have a thoroughly soothing effect, if not an altogether therapeutic one. One can actually relish serenity in your own garden; and feel the stress leaching out of his system. Now, with garden decking, hanging out near your garden can be made easier.
What's even better about it is that it can take care of landscaping imperfections, such as slopes or uneven surfaces. You wouldn't want to be stumbling all over rocks and roots while enjoying the outdoors, would you? It can also be an extension of sorts for your house. You can have it serve as a receiving room. If roofing is installed as well, it can even be another living room. Surely, there are a number of people who can have the appreciate for more space. Now, before you get too excited and get in touch with an installation company, you should at least think about placement and design first.
The Connection
When people talk about decking, what usually comes to mind first is an extension that is connected directly to the house. Some install decking near the kitchen, others want it as an extension of the living room. Others get poolside decking installed. If you want a destination deck, like one over a pond that is located way beyond the house, you can always opt not to have it connected at all. You may even install part of it right outside your bedroom in case you want to be able to step-out and feel the soak the sun in right after waking up.
The Placement
The location and position of your deck is just as important. Aside from the main point that it should be placed in an area where it wouldn't look like an obstruction; you may also want it away from a busy street. You may also place it someplace where there is a good view. You may want to think about placing one on a particularly shady area; or one where you get enough sun. You may even want it on a spot where the wind blows quite nicely.
The Architecture
Your garden decking should blend in with the rest of the house. For one, it should be in scale. You wouldn't want a deck that is way larger than the area that your house occupies. It should also be compatible with the architecture. For example, if your house is Victorian-style, with all the turrets, intricate details, ironworks and the likes, you should go for decking that would look well with it. You also need to pay attention to the railing as well. Avoid messing up your house's character with installations that look totally off-base.
Garden decking can be a great addition to your lawn and your home. But, you should do careful planning about its lay-out, particularly the placement and how it will be connected to your house, and make sure that it will not clash with your house's architecture. Build it right, and you'll soon be reaping the benefits.
