There are many ways of helping the environment within your home and it is important that we realise the effects and consequences of how we use energy in the home. Wood-burning stoves are definitely the way forward. I first came across one when staying in a cottage in the lake district and was very impressed when I found out that that not only was this helping save the planet but would help me save money too with a pile of Eco logs by the side.

One of the things I love about wood-burning stoves are they have given my home an added feature and has given it a real homely feel. I have not had my house revalued since having this but I know many of my friends admire it so it would definitely be a selling feature.

The wood-burning stove I have put in is very traditional although as they have become increasingly popular there have been many more designs created to suit the more modern homes. Although I can't think of any reasons why people would not invest in one I can understand why people would want it to suit their property and the interior.
Apparently the energy that is created through the wood-burning stove is that much more of an open fire. Sometimes open fires will actually lose you heat which will make the room even colder. I can honestly say that the heat produced is a fantastic and quick way of warming up my home. And to make things even better whilst this is in action I can use the top of my stove to boil up the kettle so it is a real winner.

What I have been very impressed by is the little amount of mess made. I have had mine for 6 months and have only had to clean it every couple of months. I use it everyday so I do not see this as a problem at all. And to be honest I haven't cleaned it but I have watched my husband do this and did not hear him moan even once.

The stove I have only burns wood but there ones you can buy which are multi-fuelled. It is important that the logs, which are used, should have very little moisture content. If you can be bothered and are lucky enough the wood that you use does not have to cost you a penny. There is wood where you least expect it and you would be surprised on how much wood people throw from their homes. There are certain woods you should avoid such as painted wood but this will not cause many problems.

My wood-burning stove cost over a grand but you can buy them cheaper or if you want to have the top of the range they can cost up to £6000. This may seem like quite a lot of money but you have to remember about how much money you can expect to save on central heating bills with eco logs. I have not had to use my since I brought the stove so I haven't looked back.
