Going in an underwater adventure is truly a life-altering experience. Why? This is because of the many facets of the world that you haven't yet discovered that you can only find in exploring the depths of the sea. This is probably why many scuba diving enthusiasts have really become passionate in taking a dive in some of the world's best diving destinations.
However, there are some things you need to know first before to taking your first diving tour. You must recognize the fact that diving underwater is a whole other different skill you must learn apart from the usual skills you normally practice on land. This is why undergoing a certification course is necessary in order to remain composed underwater as well as to maximize the experience of your diving adventure.
One of the main things you will learn is breathing. Normally, when you're on land, you just breathe in through your nose, and exhale through your mouth. It is a normal activity of the body. However, when you're in the ocean depths, it is very different from what you are used to. Breathing through a regulator and with your mask on that basically covers most of your face can be quite tricky at times. That is why in a diving certification course, you will have sessions under the pool that will allow you to practice breathing using the regulator.
It is very important to keep your composure underwater. Some people forget to breathe or hold their breath long enough that speeds up their heart rate therefore resulting in a panic attack. If you normally have this condition when experiencing a stressful situation you must remember to relax and keep calm. You have to bear in mind that the more you panic, the harder it would be for you to swim back to shore and regain your oxygen supply.
Although swimming is a necessary skill you must learn in order to maintain your composure on water, this will not be required unless you are supposed to resurface or move to a different part of the diving site. It is best to store your energy so that you won't have a hard time breathing underwater.
It is also best if you know the functions of all your diving gears. Knowing exactly how they work will give you the presence of mind on what to do in case there are any mishaps. You must also avoid from making sudden motions that will interrupt the normal activities of the creatures underneath. You have to remember that you are the foreign creature invading their living space and you have to exercise some respect in order to avoid attracting unwanted attention from the sea creatures.
There would be some instances wherein you would need to send signals with your fellow divers. Also, there are times when you would need to send warning signals or distress messages to them. That is why it is advisable that you know the hand signals to properly communicate with your co-divers. This skills had helped many diving enthusiasts survive a terrifying accident just because they know how to communicate using their hands.
