If there is a game that has outlived every other game invented in the planet, it is chess. Chess is an unconventional sport; it is unlike the other sports that require you to physical strength and ability to win the game. This sport makes use of your intellectual capacity more than your physical potency. It has withstood the test of time and will continue to do so until it is being played by a lot of enthusiasts.
Basically, chess is a three-part game. The opening, middle-game and endgame are the stages of the game. Each of these has its principles and theories that you must follow and study separately at a time. In order to completely understand the game, you must first start studying the endgame stage. Yes, it is funny to start at the end, but it is entirely necessary. Every chess game tutorial will teach you that you must learn the endgame first.
For you to fully comprehend the stages, here is a more elaborate explanation:
Opening
This is the beginning of the game – the part where players make their first moves before getting in the middle-game. The aim of this stage is to develop the positions of your chessmen; they must be placed where they can assume an effective role. Even if there are some players who already form an attack to the king during the opening, this must not always be done because the attack may go south once middle-game is entered. The reason for failure may be the lack of development of your chessmen. The most crucial part of the opening is guarding the safety of your king. Your king must be placed in a safe place before you take any action to attack your opponent.
Middle-game
This stage is the part where real action comes in. After having completed development, players may now formulate and instigate their plans with the purpose of getting advantage over the opponent. A lot of games and plays are already decided during this stage of the game, but there are still others that go beyond this part and complete the endgame. In the middle-game, an initiative is required to gain advantage until the endgame part of the play.
The critical considerations during middle-game are the pawn structure and board control. What is the structure of your pawns? Who has a better pawn structure? You must be aware that pawn structure can seriously handicap your plan so you must defend your pawns adequately and appropriately.
Board control is another consideration. It is the player that controls the middle of the board that will have serious space advantage in the game. Remember to always secure your king in every move you take to not allow your rival attack it unguardedly.
Endgame
Kings and pawns are the highlight of endgame. It is in this part of the chess game that checkmating is done. Checkmating is the result of a successfully planned attack. It is the endgame stage that declares the winner of the game.
