Majorca or Mallorca is an island off the east coast of Spain. It is one of the most holiday spots in the world and certainly the hottest spot│place in the Mediterranean. This island started becoming a tourist Mecca in the 60s when development . There are now a lot of high-rise hotels and shopping centers in the islands but the capital, Palma, still has some historical flavor in it with its mansions and a marvelous Gothic cathedral in the center. The coast in the northwest is also still untouched, offering secluded│private coves under Serra de Tramuntana (a mountain range) and some charming old towns and villages you will enjoy exploring while on holidays.
Going on Majorca holidays can definitely be a lot of fun especially if you love the sun. You can head off for a tour of the island by using a rented car or even a bicycle for some short trips. There are so many fishing villages to visit as well as historic monasteries, picturesque landscapes, museums, and monuments. Although the island may seem to be modern and bustling│busy, its interior is still mainly preserved by a thriving│flourishing agricultural community dotted with olive, almond tress, and windmills.
If you want to go to Majorca, there are some tourist attractions you should not fail to visit. Below is a list of some of them:
- Catedral El Seo -- Your Majorca holidays can never be complete without visiting this Gothic cathedral in the middle of Palma. It is the landmark of the city, standing proud and tall facing the ocean. This cathedral was dedicated to the capital's patron saint, San Sebastian. In its treasury are some of the saintly relics and pieces of the True Cross.
- Palau de l'Almudaina – at the opposite of Catedral El Seo is this palace which served as a fortress erected│built by the Moors. It later became the residence of the Majorcan kings. Currently, most of its rooms and corridors are bare, but awesome Flemish Gobelin tapestries are still on display. Some arts and armor suits were also preserved for the visitors to see.
- Castell del Bellver – This is a round hilltop castle established in 1309. It served as the summer residence of the king. This fortified castle also served as a in the old days. These days though, it houses the Palma's Municipal Museum where archeological artifacts and old coins are .
- Banys Arabs – This is the only remaining complete Moorish-built structure│building in the city of Palma. This was actually the bathhouse during the medieval quarter. Its chamber looks like an elegant horseshoe which is arched and domed, supported by 12 columns, fronted by a lovely garden with picnic tables.
- Beaches – There are a number of nice beaches near Palma accessible by bus. Actually, there are about 40 of them. Mostly, they are crowded by visitors because of their blue waters and great restaurants. If you wish to enjoy some bathing in the sun and the sea, these beaches are definitely what will cap up your Majorca holidays.
