The wise thing to do when you start dating a person is to look for compatibility on issues important to you. This could be the reason many marriages end up in divorce after a few years. You don't have to be handsome or beautiful to be dateable, though many may think they should be. One of the simplest things one can do to be accepted is to be clean. Oral and physical hygiene is what most people, sometime even unconsciously, look for in a partner.

Most people are innately drawn to kindness and other such positive qualities. All these are qualities one will look for in a potential father or mother of his or her child. So a person who is average looking but is caring and kind will score over a person who is handsome but is rude and mean.

Dating a person you already know is comparatively safer than dating a stranger, especially for women. Online dating has become a very common way of meeting people this past decade and with these come a lot of question on how important it is to be careful what you do or how much information you give away online. Though we are not telling you to be paranoid, look for signs to see what the other person's intentions are and if you are careful, its not that difficult.

The best way to start dating someone is to be friends first. This way when you date them, you already like them; you will know them inside out and know that you are compatible.
