Window blinds are a type of window covering that can be operated to open and close. Basically it is a group of slats held and arranged together, either in horizontal or vertical form. When closed the slats overlap each other and allows very minimum light or no light at all from outside. The slats can be adjusted to slant or fully open, depending on how much amount of light you needed in a room. It also regulates vision of outside and similarly inside, allowing privacy in a room.
Window blinds have different types, namely horizontal blinds, vertical blinds, mini blinds, wood blinds, faux wood blinds, cellular shades, and other alternative types of blinds. With every type comes the practicality depending on the usage of a room.
Horizontal and vertical blinds are the typical blinds mostly seen at homes and offices. It only varies in the material, colors available, and amount of light it can put off. Vertical blinds are also used as room dividers. Mini blinds are also called aluminium blinds. They give a modern look and are said to be more cost effective. Sizes may vary from 1" to ½" wide slats. It is even safer for children and pets because it doesn't have dangling cords that can pose as a hazard.
Wood blinds as the name connotes is composed of wood slats. These are often the choice when an elegant and sophisticated look is desired inside the home. It is also considered as the homey look and brings a more natural ambiance inside a room. It becomes a useful window shade and at the same time also as a decoration. Faux wood blinds are similar in look and in use as the wood blinds. But it's more practical because it can be used in more humid areas and warping is not a problem compared to its natural or original form. It is even easier to clean and maintain.
Cellular shades on the other hand are also blinds but are not formed in separate slats. It is also called honeycomb blinds, because of the empty pockets formed at the sides when it's open. It looks like pleats from the front or like blinds when they are closed. This type of blinds is composed of two fabrics, and are said to be energy efficient. The pockets formed become an insulation that prevents heat loss in the winter, and heat absorption in the summer.
The alternative types on the other hand are the combination of the window blinds type. There are horizontal blinds that can function like the cellular shades. Another is the Sheer Horizontals that works like the wood and cellular shade in one. It offers an elegant look like the wood blinds and also provides thermal control like the cellular shades.
Instead of curtains window blinds are better for long term installation in homes. Also it is easy to operate and there are types which are remote controlled. It even looks neater when placed at windows. And it can easily be pulled up (horizontal blinds) or pulled to the sides (vertical blinds) if not in use. With the variety of colors and material types of these window blinds you can choose the ones that would complement the interior of your homes. Maintaining these window blinds are easy because it requires less cleaning requirements and are manufactured to last for years.
