Here's the deal: roller shades can be great window treatment options... if only picked the right one. How many times have you actually seen a particular space having ill-fitting window shades, just because the owner did not know how to choose the right model for the job? If you would rather not have this embarrassment, here is a list of questions you ought to consider first before buying this kind of window treatment option.
1. What kind of shades would serve you best?? Would you rather have a translucent (sheer) shade that allows light to permeate, allowing you to see out the window even when the shade is down? Or would you rather have semi-translucent (also called semi-sheer) that allows a smaller volume of light in, but would serve as a suitable privacy curtain? Or would you rather have a blackout roller shade that blocks out both the light and the view?
2. Would dangling cords or hanging chains be a problem in your space? Most roller shades have this energy saving feature, but these might not be suitable in spaces where children and pets move freely about. If the answer is "yes" to question #2, you might want to opt for window shades that have lift mechanisms or motorized systems that could pull down or retract the shades without the need for dangling cords or hanging chains.
3. What color would suit your interior décor better? Fortunately enough, there are great color selections for these shades. But you may want to opt for something that will blend well with your interior décor. Neutral colors should do fine, but shades of green are also great, particularly for windows that have great views (e.g. backyard, the garden, the pool, etc.) If you are feeling a little bold, why not go for shades that contrast with the rest of the room's color theme. A very vibrantly colored red window treatment option can bring life to an otherwise drab environment.
4. Where will you install the shades? "The window," is of course the most obvious answer but will you be placing the shades above the window frames or (as with the case of deep framed windows) in the interior part of the frame... about one or two inches in front of the actual window glass or pane? Try to measure your window space accordingly. Otherwise, you may have roller shades that are too big or too small that they become too heavy on the eyes, or too undersized to serve any purpose at all.
5. Just how much are you willing to spend for this window treatment option? If you have unlimited budget, you might want to consider custom-made roller shades that are professionally measured and installed. Or, if you would rather opt for more affordable models, you might want to check out local home depot sales and discounted offers from online vendors. Some of the best buys are not necessarily the most expensive ones, you know.
