At Coleman Tent we know how important it is to get the right sleeping canvas for the job. Not only will the right kind of tent help keep you safe and dry during your the nocturnal hours, but a good one can also make your camping trips enjoyable as well. After all, you do spend a large portion of your camping trips inside your tent, no matter what other outdoor activities you might be engaging in. These days, people are investing good money on at least one Coleman tent, a stove, lanterns, coolers, and sleeping bags (and all sorts of camping gear too.)
If you already have a Coleman tent, here are some things you might want to do to extend its life, and guarantee you great use for years to come.
1. Make sure that you vacuum away as much dirt as you can (or at least send it to the cleaners) before tucking your tent away for the meantime. Although the tough canvas would stand up to most dirt and grime, keeping your tent as clean as possible helps the material last longer. Also, make sure that the tent is completely dry before tucking it away. Any moisture build-up will not only make the canvas deteriorate faster, but may leave a permeating musty smell all over the tent surface.
2. Speaking of being tucked away for the meantime, try to acquire a fabric bag or a fabric lined container for your Coleman tent. Plastic bags or other non-porous containers may stain the tent canvas. Store the fabric bags in areas where sharp objects like nails or furniture corners will not likely damage the canvas within.
3. If "accidents" happen (e.g. baby messed up, or the cat decided to mark the tent) take the tent immediately to the cleaners. Otherwise, you might be spending a lot of your camping trips in an extremely smelly tent. And if that is not bad enough, these smells would latch on to anything inside the interior space including your sleeping bags, your clothes, your hair...
4. Before setting out to your camp site, try to pitch the tent at whatever available space you have. Inspect the canvas for rips or small scratches, or stains. Many people often overlook this step and end up with an unusable tent when they are already in the camp site.
5. When packing your Coleman tent, make sure that you do not mix these with other tools and equipments, particularly the sharp-edged ones that may inadvertently puncture the surface.
6. Choose a tent area that is free from underfoot debris and away from bushes, shrubs and branches. Laying down a tarp underneath the tent will not only protect the tent floor from possible rips and tears, but might make settling down in a sleeping bag easier too.
7. Lastly, never overstretch your tent capacity. If the tent is recommended for four people, make sure that you adhere to that limit. If you have more people joining you in your camping trip, then you can either assign them to other tents, or you might want to upgrade to a Coleman 6 Tent (for 6 people) or a Coleman 8 Tent (for 8 people.)
