3. Try to pitch your tent about 25 feet or more away from any running water source. Many people think that pitching a tent near a stream or creek is a very good idea since they do not have to walk very far to bathe or dip into the water. Unfortunately, any running water source brings its own set of problems. For example: if there is a sudden downpour, the stream or creek can increase in volume considerably. This will put your tent (and every one and every thing in it) in danger of being swept away.
