Sometimes, it would be such a pain to wake up in the morning just because the room is getting warmer or the sunshine glares in your eyes. It would also be difficult to see the projections on the screen when the sunshine creeps into the room. But there is a remedy for that.

Window blinds are basically slats of wood, metal or fabric that would cover the window. These can either be horizontal or vertical. They are adjusted by the rotation of the slats that allow them to overlap each other to close.

These coverings were called window blinds because of the way it obstructs the view of a person looking inward or outward of a window. Thus, the window blinds would "blind" the person from the view outside.
Window blinds as a term is usually used to call all kinds of window coverings. It is used in reference to shades, shutters or even the British awnings.

Window blinds would be helpful in lessening the heat from the sunlight that enters the room. Obviously, since it would reduce the sunlight that enters the room, it would also absorb and perhaps repel the heat that would come with the sunlight. It was actually recorded that the Egyptian pharaohs used window blinds made of reeds for this purpose.

The drawing of the window blinds can be done mechanically or manually. If the blinds are mechanically operated, the controls would usually be mounted on a wall that would be most likely situated near the light switch. It could also have a remote control or a keypad instead of a wall switch.

One of the varieties of window blinds would be vertical blinds. These are basically like venetian blinds but would obviously have vertical slats instead of the horizontal slats. The difference is, however, the vertical blinds would have wider slats as compared to horizontal blinds.

There are different materials used to make vertical blinds. They can be made of stiffened cloth, plastic or metal. These slats would be hung individually on one end on a track. These can be rotated at 90 to 180 degrees to allow the light to pass through and to close them as well.
This type of window blinds is quite preferred for its ability to close tightly. It would allow less to absolutely no light to enter the room.

Vertical blinds are also known to endure against strong winds than horizontal blinds. They are also deemed to be sturdier and tend to be less brittle as it ages. They are easier and would require less use of muscle strength to operate.

It would often happen that vertical blinds would be a little bit over height and width of the window. This would ensure that there would be almost no light entering the room. It would also help slow the escaping of the cold in a room that is air-conditioned. Vertical blinds are also known to help prevent insects from being able to enter the room through the windows.
