To what do you wake up to every morning? Is it your alarm clock? Is it the noise outside your room? Or is it the sun shining on you?
Have you ever awoken to the sun glaring in your eyes after a long night of partying? Have you ever opened your eyes at 6:00 AM with the sun smiling down on you? I bet the sun's smile didn't seem that good then. Maybe it's about time you got window blinds.
Window blinds are covers for windows in the form of slats made of fabric, wood, or metal. The window covers open and close by rotating and allowing the slats to overlap each other. Window blinds may be machine or hand operated.
The term, window blinds, is loosely and inaccurately used to describe anything that covers the windows. It is used for shades, shutters, roman shades, and of course, the horizontal and vertical blinds.
The term was actually coined since the window coverings limit the view of the person looking out of it. That's why it was called window blinds since it obstructs part of the view from inside to the outside and vice versa.
Window blinds would help lessen heat from the sun entering your room. It has been recorded that early Egyptian kings would have blinds made of reeds. They were used to shield not only the heat but the light from outside.
There are several different kinds of window blinds. And one of them is vertical blinds. As the term would depict, vertical blinds use vertical slats to cover the windows. Vertical blinds usually have wider slats. You would be able to pull on a cord that would pull the slats together to one side like a curtain or separate them at the center to stack them on each end. The rotating shaft on the upper head rail would be responsible for the opening and closing of the slats. These would run through independently geared carriers that will rotate each of the slats together at one time.
Vertical blinds hold against strong winds better than horizontal blinds. It holds dirt better. And they would have last longer than their horizontal counterparts. They are also faster to operate.
There are stationary vertical blinds. These vertical blinds would usually be used for doorways. These would commonly be made of plastic. These blinds would actually signal change in air temperature and air movement when someone comes in. And the air change will definitely let you know if someone has entered the room.
Stationary vertical blinds would also be used in cold rooms of food businesses. The blinds would slow the leaking of the cold in the room
In places with warmer climates, vertical blinds would help stop flies and other insects from easily entering the room or the building through windows.
Vertical blinds are one kind of window blinds that you could use for your home or your office. It would definitely help block the heat and the light from entering your room. It would also be helpful in keeping the temperature in your room. If you've had a long night at work doing overtime or came home late after a night of partying, then window blinds will help stop the sun from giving you that "good morning".
