Remember to do this in a clear, open and wide space in your home. This would allow you to spread the roller shades completely. There is a need to clean the whole shade completely even if you just keep a part of it down most of the time.

First, unroll the shade as far as it can go. Your vacuum would likely have a fabric nozzle. Use that to vacuum the dust off the roller shades. Start from the top of the shade then slowly work your way to the bottom.
Next, check what type of fabric your roller shades are made of. If they are made of vinyl, you may use a mild detergent and some water to clean it.
Then, take the shade off the window. Here is when you would need to find a big space like a really big table. Place a blanket or perhaps a drop cloth on the table. Roll the shade completely onto the blanket.
Filll the pail with warm water. Add some mild cleaning detergent to it. Make sure that you check the detergent's label for the correct ratio of water and cleaning detergent. Also, check the shade's manual. Make sure that you are using the right kind of detergent and have the right ratio as well.
Take the damp cloth and dip it into the cleaning solution you just made. Wipe the roller shades from one end to another, from left to right or from top to bottom. You can follow this up with wiping it with the dry cloth then leaving it to dry.
Make sure that you have both sides of the roller shades clean. Most people forget to clean the back side of the shade. If this is not cleaned, then there would be a buildup of dirt on the backside. You definitely don't want a cake of dirt on your window shades.
Air-dry the shade. Make sure that it is completely dry before you reinstall it on the window opening.

These easy steps will allow you to maintain a pleasant ambiance in your home. It will also help keep the decorative feature of your roller shades.

It is also important to remember to take care of the window shades. Too much pulling on the cord may stretch it and eventually make it break. This would cause you to go through a lot more trouble of having to replace the cord or the whole window treatment itself. Take an effort to be a little bit gentle when rolling the shade up or down. This will ensure a longer and more enjoyable time with these window shades.
