One of the most popular diet types that evolved recently with its ongoing research has been the "Blood type Diet". This diet is based on a research conducted by Peter D' Adamo, who suggests to "Eat Right For Your Type" which means that people fare better when they tailor their diet to their specific blood types. Basically there are 4 blood groups – A, B, AB and O – and we each belong to one of them. Peter advises that:
• Type A types – should stick to fruits and vegetables. Type A have thicker blood than other blood types and a sensitive immune system, they should not consume dairy products, animal fats and meats. Carbs are fine with this blood type, but meals should be low in fat. Since type A has trouble digesting animal protein, which includes dairy, protein can alternatively be sourced from nuts, seeds, legumes and soy based products such as tofu.
• Type B types – should consume a balanced diet, encompassing a combination of fruits and vegetables, grains, fish, dairy and meat. Although chicken may best be avoided. Unlike type A, type B is at the liberty of including dairy products into their diet.
• Types AB types – can consume a mixture of dairy, vegetables and meat. This blood type can basically have a combination of diets of type A and B.
• Type O types – should consume a high protein diet that is heavy on meat protein but light on vegetables. Intake of whole wheat products, corn and dairy products are best left avoided. Foods such as cabbage, cauliflower, mustard greens inhibit thyroid function and may lead to fatigue and weight gain.
Although there are many who debate the Blood Type Diet to being useful towards effective weight loss, many followers on the other hand have found remarkable results as well. No diet to begin with is a 100% weight loss tool. Variation in food intake can be attributed as a key to healthy weight loss. The genesis of the Blood Type Diet entails :
a) You consume the foods that suit you the best, therefore, allowing your body to process these foods very efficiently.
b) The Blood Type Diet, encompasses the consumption of natural, healthy foods that are a source of essential nutrients and vitamins required for the body.
c)The diet is simple, easy to follow and inexpensive. One just needs to invest in the book by Peter D'Adamo.
The critics of this diet type condemn it due to its inability to specify :
a) The quantity of food to be consumed at each meal and the calorie count of what is being consumed.
b) Since this diet has no firm scientific studies to backup its claim, its been the subject of scientists who constantly dispute and raise concerns of its effectiveness for weight loss.
On the whole like every other diet, the Blood Type Diet has its own set of pros and cons. To follow this diet, its on each one of us to note what suits us the best, and then formulate a chart detailing food that leaves the body more energetic. For example, type A may feel that by avoiding dairy products the body feels much more healthy. All this brings us to the conclusion of Blood Type Diet being a combination of food types that suit us the best.
