The whole contraption can be installed over a window, and under a decorative covering such as a curtain or a blind.

Another good consequence of having window shades around a house is its insulating properties. Energy efficiency can be improved in a residence, just because these shades are installed. They can block out heat as well as sunlight during warm months, and reduces the energy needed for cooling a home. In winter climate, the shades can keep in the warmth that might otherwise seep out through the windows. Opening and closing the shades is easy, with the help of an internal roller mechanism. It is done by a simple roll-up and pull-down action. On these grounds mentioned above, most homeowners would opt for shades over curtains, blinds, shutters, and other window solutions that are available.
