So, you've finally decided to buy new window blinds to replace the old curtains draped on your windows. Installation is the next step after purchasing blinds to give your windows and home interior a refreshing look. It also allows you to keep your privacy and to manipulate lighting in your room.
In most cases, vertical blind installation can be done without the help of a professional. You can do it yourself! Mounting vertical blinds involve a few simple steps and needs some tools that are readily at home. Here are the easy-to-follow instructions for vertical blind installations.
1. Measure the window's width and length before you buy the blinds. This step is necessary to avoid making your blinds appear as if they're going to collapse anytime soon. Make sure the measurements are accurate because if you don't, your new blinds won't fit into the casement where you'll mount them. To achieve accuracy, take measurements of your window in millimeters. Also, you must measure from some points on the window recess (top, middle, bottom, left, and right) since there are windows that are not square. Use a high-quality and durable metal tape measure instead of fabric tapes. Fabric tape measures tend to stretch or crumple after many years of use, so they may provide inaccurate readings.
Accuracy won't be a problem, however, if the blinds will be installed outside the casement. In that case, you can choose how far you want to extend the blinds from the window.
2. Make sure that the vertical blinds include two mounting brackets; otherwise, there's no way you can mount the blinds onto the windows. Mark the areas where the brackets will be mounted, which are usually over the frame for installing outside the casement and within the window frame for installing inside the casement. If you're installing the blind above the window, be sure that the overlap has similar distance on the left and right sides of the frame.
3. Get the window blind installation kit that comes with the blinds you purchased. The installation kit must include mounting screws. You need a drill or an electric screwdriver to screw the mounting brackets into the areas where you made your markings. If you're installing the blinds inside the casement, the mounting brackets should fit within the window frame's corners.
4. Insert the top section of the vertical blind into the mounting brackets. Tie up the strings before you mount the blinds to avoid damage on the blinds. After you've inserted the blind into the brackets, secure the caps on both ends of the brackets. Now, you're done with installing your new vertical blinds!
See how simple it is to install your newly purchased window blinds? The good thing about doing installation on your own is that you can save dollars that you would have otherwise spent for hiring someone to do it.
