It is too easy to make excuses for skipping your exercise routine and too hard to look at the benefits you gain from regular workouts! If you are a lady and are not already into some type of sports such as tennis, baseball, etc., it would be indeed very difficult for you to switch from your current sedentary lifestyle to an active lifestyle consisting of daily exercises! You would find it extremely difficult to leave your couch and head for the gym! But do you know how much you are losing out by not working out?

It is not that one should exercise only for weight loss and stop exercising as soon as she loses weight! You see, besides helping you lose weight, exercises offer several other huge benefits that are too big to ignore:

a) Exercises make your bones and muscles stronger. With stronger bones, you have fewer chances of getting infected with osteoporosis, which affects a large number of women of 50 years and above! With stronger muscles, you have bigger chances of getting recovered quickly from any injury, major or minor!

b) Exercises prevents mental problems such as stress, depression, etc. Exercise helps you sleep better. In a way, regular exercises make you a happier person!

c) Besides helping you with weight loss, exercises also make sure that you don't gain fat in future! When you exercise, you build strong, lean muscle mass, and when you build muscles, you also burn fat even when you are resting, and thus, keep obesity away permanently!

d) Exercises lower your blood pressure. If you exercise regularly, you have fewer chances of getting heart attacks.

Okay, now that you know about the many advantages of exercises, you are probably all excited to get started on it quickly! But wait! Once you actually start exercising, all your excitement would dry out, so that instead of thinking about the benefits of workouts, you would think about excuses to skip them! You know, the surefire way to make sure that you never skip your workouts is to make working out a habit. Once it forms a habit, you would find it hard not to exercise.

Let me tell you that it takes almost one month to form a habit, and if you have never exercised in life, the first few weeks would be the most difficult weeks for you. But if you want to live a healthy life, you need to break through those superficial barriers created by your mind and make a firm decision never to stop exercising!

Remember that at this point there is no need to set your fitness goal too high. DO NOT even think of working out for four hours per day, as that would only worsen your situation. At this point your sole aim should be to make exercising a habit. As such, you need to workout daily, even if it is for just 5, 10, or 15 minutes! If you maintain an appointment diary, keep exercises at the top of all your appointments. Treat your workouts as appointments you cannot afford to miss at any cost!

Again, let me repeat that the first few weeks would be very important and you need to break through them, not only in order to lose weight but also to live a healthy and long life! Just as you made it a habit to eat junk foods, just as you made it a habit to sit on your couch throughout the day, in the same way you would need to make daily exercising a habit.

I know that it is easier to form bad habits than good ones, but if you manage to exercise daily for one month straight, without any breaks, a strange thing would happen.

Do you know why so many people are addicted to smoking? They don't get addicted within a day, or even a week! Smokers inhale nicotine through smoking. When nicotine reaches their brain, it releases a strange kind of "pleasure chemical" in the brain and the smoker feels good about it; in due time he gets addicted to smoking!

Likewise, exercises release "pleasure chemicals" into your body whenever you do them. As such, I am sure that after working out for one month straight, you would get addicted to it, so much so that it would become part of your second nature and you won't be able to do without it!
