The majority of people think that being overweight is a matter of just eating too much, while not doing enough exercise. But the truth of the matter is that obesity is much more complicated than that. Being overweight is caused when something goes extremely bad with your assimilation process and sets up a dangerous chain. To break this cycle of obesity, you have to first understand how your metabolism works.
Your assimilation process is the system by which nutrients are ingested, processed, and become energy. Energy enables our activities and maintains essential biological functions such as inhaling and exhaling and body temperature, as well as the directed actions such as learning, working, and having fun.
When you consume carbohydrates, they are turned into blood sugar, which is the fuel for human activities and basic biological sustenance. Healthy people will maintain an equilibrium between nutrition and cellular burning of fuel. When there is a healthy balance in this basic assimilation, you don't become overweight.
But once something goes wrong with your basic assimilation, the dangerous circle of obesity gradually sets in. In this case, you will see a three-stage cycle of being overweight set in.
First, eating meals high in refined carbohydrates – such as white sugar and white flour - will lead to spiking blood sugar levels. The high blood sugar levels lead to the production of additional insulin, as the body tries to manage the excess blood sugar. Over time, the unused blood sugar is stored in your body as fat.
Then, the body's ability to burn these blood sugars is slowly reduced – as insulin resistance sets in. The body reacts very badly to the continual excess production of insulin and begins to use insulin less effortlessly. After several years of high blood sugar, insulin production weakens and your body changes and becomes resistant to the insulin that it does produce. Thus, your body has one fewer resource to deal with your obesity.
Finally, after many years of obesity, your body begins to break down and illnesses such as heart failure and diabetes come into play. When your metabolism isn't functioning properly, the rest of your body can't function adequately.
There is no "quick fix" to this cycle of being overweight, but you can begin to normalize your assimilation process – get it working adequately again. This will return your blood sugar levels back to normal and allow the insulin production to again function adequately in your body. As your blood sugars are effectively metabolized and burned for energy, your body no longer stores them as fat. Day by day, your metabolism will start processing the fat stored in your body – and you will lose weight. You'll also feel a lot healthier.
