Most clothes available today in the market are formed unethically using fabrics, chemicals, and pesticides that damage the environment. Great amount of child labour is used to reduce costs and make enormous revenues and profits.
Fabrics like non-organic cotton when created releases air pollution in the form of carbon dioxide. Polyester employed in producing clothes produces petroleum as a spin-off. Dyes used in clothes release large amounts of chlorine, chromium, and impurities, which is a health hazard for farmers, producers, and consumers.
People have now turned towards a positive change, and have started demanding ethically responsible clothes and have advanced towards making the environment a better place to breathe in. Materials used in forming ethically responsible clothing are:
Organic Cotton
Several years ago, cotton was produced organically before pesticides and other chemicals were used in its formation. Cotton was cultivated in the fields in rotation with other crops so that soil heath can be made better. During the last six decades, cotton is the crop that uses more insecticide than any other crop produced in the world. Cotton use 25% percent of the world's insecticides as it is the major growing crop all over the world.
Organic cotton is cultivated exclusive of pesticides and other chemical fertilisers. Modern organic methods and crop replacements are used to keep pests minimised. According to a survey by UK government, if every citizen in the country purchase one piece of clothing produced from recycled wool per year, it would save 371 million gallons of water, 480 tonnes of chemical dyes and 4571 million days of an average family demand of electricity.
Bamboo
Bamboo fabric is formed from the soft fibres in bamboo pulp, which is taken out from the bamboo plant. Other than being environment friendly, it has a lot of other qualities better from manufactured cloth. Bamboo cloth helps the moisture on skin to be absorbed so that the skin can breathe even through the fabric. It also acts as antibacterial and antifungal. It is a wrinkle free fabric, which does not necessitate ironing or dryer to dry. Another charcteristic that bamboo plants have is that they frown fastly releasing more oxygen than normal tress and takes away carbon dioxide from the air. No pesticides are used to grow bamboos. It is very easy to develop them organically.
Hemp
A plant known as Hemp produces the most environment friendly cloth in the world. It consumes no pesticides and needs very less amount of water to grow. Hemp is not only used in the textile and clothing industry, it is also used in making paper and some plastic. It is more long lasting than cotton, and is protecting, absorbing, allergy-free, and normally not annoying to the skin.
Tencel
Tencel or Lyocell is a very soft fabric available today. It is developed from cellulose in wood pulp. This pulp is transformed into fibres to make cloth out of it. It is friendly to the environment and processed without using chemicals. It is very soft, long lasting, lightweight and recyclable.
