Different changes have been made to the script of J.K Rowling while producing the film Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. In order to yield an entertaining motif to the film and put off duplication of scenes with the forthcoming seventh sequel, some scenes have been deliberately removed from the movie or otherwise added for overall glamour. Some of the scenes have been expanded more than the book's mere representation to increase the level of charm of the movie.
The climactic battle at the end of the book has been removed from the movie in order to avoid replication with the forthcoming film and to produce rather appealing cohesion, according to the perspective of the Director. Just like that, Dumbledore's funeral ceremony has also been deliberately eliminated as it didn't fit with the overall pattern of the movie and to keep a smooth, consistent carrying of the movie.
There has been short information, in the book, about the collapse of the bridge in the Muggle World, but it has been made the opening scene of the movie with much remarkable cinematography following it. The scenes of thwarting the Diagon Alley by the Death Eaters along with the attack on the Burrow by Bellatrix Lestrange and Fenrir Greyback have been included to boost the awe-inspiring aspect of the Half Blood Prince movie.
The memories that Dumbledore unravels during the course of the book have been short listed with the depiction of the more appealing ones. Only those related to the Orphanage and Horcruxes have been filmed, as according to the Director Yates, they are "cooler" than the rest. Others, including the Gaunts, have been edited to evade over-stretching of the movie and revive its entertainment and appeal.
Characters that proved to be less important or essential for inclusion have also been sidetracked in the film. These characters were not essential for the completion of the script. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince will not be carrying the roles like, Dursleys, Kreacher, Dobby, Bill and Fleur, Rufus Scrimgeour, Cornelius Fudge and the Muggle Prime Minister.
While on the other side of the picture, some characters have been just included for enough enjoyment. Bellatrix Lestrange has been added up in the war up on the Astronomy Tower whereas she is nowhere to be seen in the film. She is also seen as well with Carrows and Greyback during the celebration of Dumbledore's death.
Moreover, Harry Potter is paralysed during his journey in the Hogwarts Express from where he is retrieved with the help of Nymphadora Tonks. Although, in the movie, Luna Lovegood aids him although she is wearing her Spectrespecs. This has been, again, an attempt to prevent extension of the film and to keep it short and all-alluring.
All of this editing has been done to engross the spectators to the greatest level and allow them to mingle up with the charm and allure of the movie. However, these changes have not altered the eternal theory of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince; rather have augmented its deliverance to the viewers.
