Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth part of the Harry Potter series was released on July 16, 2005. Now its movie is to be released on 15 July 2009, which has developed great excitation and anxiety among the Potter spectators. This part focuses on the past life of Lord Voldemort and the other rivals of Harry Potter.
As always, Alan Rickman plays the character of Snape in the movie. He is the potions master at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and head of Slytherin house, but he had been after the defense against the dark arts job for years. From the day Harry joined Hogwarts, Snape has held a grievance against him perhaps because of his father.
He and Harry's father James Potter were class fellows but never got along. Afterwards James married Lily Evan, whom Snape was in love with. This evoked the hatred of Snape towards James. Snape has always been looking for an opportunity to avenge Harry and put him in detentions. Though, the harrying by Snape to which Harry was subjected was to save Harry all along, even in the previous parts.
In the sixth book, Snape has quite a significant role. At the start of the year, he was assigned as the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher and was superceded by Horace Slughorn, a retired teacher of Hogwarts, as the potions master. Snape is one of the main adversaries and was given the job of protecting Draco Malfoy, a student and supporter of Voldemort.
In Slughorn's class, Harry had no potions notebook. As a result, he was given one by professor Slughorn. It was a book of an ex-student. It was referred in the book: "the property of Half Blood Prince". There were many spells and beneficial tips in that book, which improved Harry's performance in potions. In a fight with Draco, Harry used a lethal spell from the book, which injured Draco brutally. Snape came to the scene and freed Draco's wounds. He then put Harry in detention just before his Quidditch match of the year, because of his insensible act and his reluctance to tell about the source of the spell.
Snape also assassinated Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. When Harry and the headmaster were at the school's Astronomy tower, Draco by chance arrives and aims to kill Dumbledore, as ordered by Voldemort, but couldn't commit the murder himself. Then Snape arrives, along with other Death Eaters, and kills him. This was very saddening for Harry as he was intensely connected to Dumbledore.
Angry at this act, Harry chases Snape and Draco to kill them, but Snape easily blocks his attacks. At this point, Snape exposes himself as the Half Blood Prince. He tells that he was the son of a muggle father Tobias and a pure-blood mother Eileen Prince.
Alan Rickman has already struck a large number of people by his detailed and to the point acting of the character Snape. Even in the previous parts he has defined the accurate character. Thus, it is evident that even in this movie he is back with the same power.
