His name was an altered copy from his father's, so he jumbled it to make up a new name Lord Voldemort. His magical awareness was by far supreme than all other wizards and witches of his age after he left his school.

Due to his inner most desire to become the most powerful wizard of the magical world and to instil fear of his name in the hearts of all humans, he liked being called "Lord". Many of his followers and supporters used to call him the "Dark Lord". After the fame of his evil acts and skills, no body had the courage to call him by his name and instead used phrases they found less scary. Due to great dominant powers, he gathered a large force of loyalists who were with him on his purposes and aims.
