Jim Broadbent In The Role Of Horace Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the penultimate in the series of J.K Rowling is the most anticipated novel as well as its movie. Much of the anticipation has been fully justified by the imaginations and fantasies of the novel, but the breathtaking movie is still to be launched. With new introductions by the author, the expectations for the fine standard of the movie have also increased.

It is very much hoped that all of the apparitions and worries regarding the characters would be openly depicted. One of the new introductions is of Horace Slughorn, an old retired Potions Professor, who is called back to Hogwarts this year to take up his old post. On 17th September 2007, it was publicly announced that Jim Broadbent who had been in the dramatics business since 1980, would play this character in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

From the beginning of his career, he has given a lot of hits to the film industry and boosted up its respect and image. He had some of the best roles in Iris, Moulin Rougel, Topsy- Turvy and Bridget Jones' Diary. In order to consider him for his diligence and assurance, he was awarded several rewards like Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Iris.

His long- acting business has increased the expectations of the spectators as related to his portrayal of Horace Slughorn, as the man with the most experience is the one with most expertise! In this story, Horace Slughorn left Hogwarts some years ago and retreated to a more secluded and lonely environment. Though, he returns, this year, on simply the pursuance of Harry and Dumbledore.

On the instance of his return, he forms up a "Slug Club" to bring intelligent students to a wide-spread platform to discuss and share their skills and mysterious knowledge. Throughout the year, Dumbledore tries to acquire something mysterious from him and when he absolutely fails, he asks Harry to do so.

He wants to get a memory from him, which is unravelled later, about a conversation between him and Voldemort that might prove to be valuable for them in the final war against Lord Voldemort. Once the memory has been gained, it tells about the curiosity of Voldemort regarding Horcruxes, which Dumbledore wants to find and destroy before attacking him, or he would remain eternal, and his soul would linger on.

The overall character of Slughorn remains to be appealing but mysterious too. He does not allow anyone to peek into the past happenings of his personal as well as professional life. This is because he feels liable for becoming a source for Voldemort to attain immortality and become remarkably powerful and dangerous for the Wizard and Muggle world. This fear became the cause of retiring to loneliness and solitude.

Jim Broadbent is being greatly expected to portray the whole lineation, thick and thins, of the character nicely and carefully. For the actor to be as much competent as Jim, it is quite wise to take up a risk while selecting the cast, as the senior actors have more ideas about how to tackle their script. They can involve the viewers completely in the film and retain their interest until the last glimpse of the movie.
