Just about everyone has heard about eco friendly and green living, but how many actually know what that means? Well, I'll tell you. Green living is a lifestyle of choices that help the environment and reduce our impact on it, for this generation and all the generations yet to come.
The first tip for green living is reducing your consumption. There are 2 ways you could be reducing. First is to reduce how much you buy and just getting what you need. If you don't need it, don't buy it. Second is to reduce your consumption of natural resources, such as water, energy, and paper (trees).
Ways to do this would be to use the energy saving light bulbs and turning lights off when you're not using them. Replacing your shower head with one that conserves water is also a great way to reduce. These shower heads can cut the usage per minute from 5.5 gallons to only 1.5 gallons. Also in the day time there is no need to have lights on! By keeping your lights off in the daytime you can save around 15% off your electric bill!
The second tip for green living is reusing. There are many ways that you can reuse things, and stop them from ending up in a landfill somewhere. Not only is reusing good for the environment, but it can also save you money because it is one more thing you don't have to buy.
Some ways to do this would be with reusable cloth shopping bags, reusing plastic water bottles, and using old ragged clothes as rags for cleaning. Another good way is to donate clothes, shoes, or toys that are still in decent condition, to charitable organizations. Just because you may not be able to reuse something, doesn't mean that someone else can't.
The last tip for green living is to recycle the many things that can be recycled. Some of the common recyclables are plastic, glass, paper, and aluminum, even though there are many others. Recycling is simply the combination of reducing and reusing; reducing the amount of trash in a landfill, and reusing what was once used as something else.
Green living is a change in lifestyle choices, and will not magically happen overnight. Like any change, it starts one small step at a time. So do your part today in making your life a little greener and your wallet too!
