Ah, the joys of being a struggling artist. You slave all day over a blank canvas, come up with your masterpiece of color and then hope and pray that somebody, somewhere, will recognize your talent and buy it. Problem is, you haven't got the slightest idea of how to go about selling your art work. It's a difficult arena to break into as any artist can tell you but, in this article, I'm going to share a few tips that just might help. Keep reading to find out more.
Probably the most valuable tip I can give you is this...give it time. So many artists become let down after just a few weeks. Let me be completely honest with you, it's a competitive world out there. For every artist who is successful, there are at least a thousand who are struggling to get even an ounce of fame. Those who have the dedication to stick it out (easier said than done) are the ones who are ultimately successful. In many cases, it's simply a matter of who is the most persistent. Kind of like the principle of "survival of the fittest" or more like "the survival of the one with the most patience"!
Another crucial thing to do is to create for yourself a web presence. Put an art blog up on a website. Have photos of your artwork so that people can see your work. You never know. Somebody might just stumble upon your blog, like what they see, and become a client. Point is, if you're not visible, you're not going to sell anything. So putting up a blog with as many samples as you can put up there is critical to success.
You probably also want to network with other artists. Believe it or not, you are not all competing with each other. There are different buyers out there for the many different artistic styles. You all have something unique to offer potential customers! By networking with other artists, you may very well make contacts with those who have clients for your particular style of artwork and visa versa. You'll get a lot farther in this business by networking than going it alone.
There's a lot more you can do. If you'll check out the link in my signature, you'll find a review of a great resource that will greatly help you in getting your artwork sold.
